Pathogen Detection Systems, Inc. Closes Angel Financing Round
For Immediate Release
KINGSTON, ON - Pathogen Detection Systems Inc., ("PDS") a developer of advanced technology for rapid, automated detection of E.coli and other bacteria in water systems, has closed its initial round of financing of approximately $250,000.
This round of financing, led by the PDS founders and a group of private individuals commonly known in the industry as "angel" investors, will support the development of products that are capable of automatically detecting potentially lethal, pathogenic bacteria such as E.coli in water samples - avoiding dangerous and costly delays and potential for false results associated with the current practice of sending samples to a laboratory for testing.
"This angel round of financing represents the next phase of the company's growth," says Dr. Peter Gallant, President and CEO of PDS. "We're very excited about the future of PDS and the potential that our solutions have to bring the safety of potable water supplied to the public in all of its forms - from bottled water, to packaged ice, to municipal water supplies - to the next level.", he adds.
PDS recently acquired an exclusive, worldwide license to develop and sell this innovative technology from PARTEQ Innovations, the technology-transfer arm of Queen's University, where it was developed by a number of Queen's researchers and industrial partners during a 3-year, $2.5 million research project partially funded by Ottawa-based Precarn, Inc.
